Casio WS1200H-1AV Review: Fishing Timer, Moon Data and 10-Year Battery

A buyer-focused review of Casio’s black WS1200H-1AV fishing watch, including module 3485, moon data, 100-meter water resistance, 10-year battery and six licensed exact-watch photographs.

The Casio WS1200H-1AV is an unusually focused digital watch: instead of pretending to be a miniature smartwatch, it combines conventional timing functions with moon data and a five-level fishing-time indicator. Casio packages that niche idea in a large but light resin case, gives it 100-meter water resistance and backs it with an estimated 10-year battery life. This review evaluates Casio’s documented specifications and a six-photograph exact-watch study; it is not a personal fishing or timing test.

The essentials

Casio lists the WS-1200H-1AV at 48.6 × 46.6 × 13.5 mm and 42 grams. The case, bezel and strap are resin, as is the crystal. Those materials explain how a watch with a nearly 49 mm lug-to-lug dimension stays light enough for long days outdoors. The black case and strap are practical rather than precious: they suit wet use and rough handling, but the resin crystal will accumulate marks more readily than mineral or sapphire glass.

The official specification is 100-meter water resistance. That is a meaningful advantage for an outdoors-oriented digital watch, but buyers should still treat the rating as a case specification rather than permission to operate buttons underwater. On any used example, an unknown battery change or damaged gasket can compromise the original seal.

Fishing mode and moon data

The reason to choose this model over a generic Casio digital is its fishing mode. Casio says the watch expresses the suitability of a chosen date and time for fishing on one of five levels. The display also provides moon data for a specified date, including a moon-phase graph. In use, that makes the watch a compact planning aid: you can consult its indicator without opening a phone or carrying a separate chart.

The important limit is equally clear. A five-level indicator is not a promise that fish will bite. Weather, water temperature, tide, season, location and technique still matter. The WS1200H-1AV is best understood as a convenient lunar-cycle reference wrapped into an everyday digital watch—not a substitute for local knowledge.

Everyday functions are genuinely useful

Outside fishing mode, the specification is broad enough for daily wear. There is dual time with daylight-saving adjustment, a 1/100-second stopwatch with a capacity of 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59.99 seconds, and a 24-hour countdown timer with auto-repeat. Three independent multi-function alarms are included; two are one-time alarms, while the third can operate as a snooze or one-time alarm. Casio also provides an hourly signal, a full automatic calendar through 2099, 12/24-hour display and the option to mute button tones.

The amber LED is basic but purposeful. Casio allows either a 1.5- or 3-second illumination duration and adds afterglow. The dedicated photograph below also shows a practical limitation of this style of digital watch: illumination is functional rather than luxurious, and viewing contrast depends on angle.

The caseback matters when buying used

The steel caseback is the quickest authentication checkpoint for the specification discussed here. The photographed watch is engraved WS-1200H and module 3485, along with the 10-bar water-resistance marking and battery code CR2025. A buyer should compare those details with the seller’s watch rather than relying on a listing title alone.

What to check before buying

Inspect the four pushers for clean operation, confirm that no LCD segments are missing, and cycle through fishing mode, moon data, timer, stopwatch, alarms and the LED. Look closely at the resin crystal for deep scratches and the strap around the buckle holes for cracking. If the battery history is unknown, budget for a proper replacement and pressure check rather than assuming the original 100-meter resistance remains intact.

A genuine WS1200H-1AV should match the black-resin configuration shown here, and its back should identify WS-1200H and module 3485. Regional packaging may hyphenate the reference differently, but the module and physical configuration are the decisive checks.

Verdict

The Casio WS1200H-1AV succeeds because it knows exactly what it is. It is not a connected tracker and does not pretend that lunar data can replace experience. It is a light, inexpensive-to-run digital watch that puts a fishing indicator, moon graph, alarms, dual time, stopwatch and auto-repeat timer behind a readable display. For anglers who like a watch to have a distinct job—and for collectors who enjoy Casio’s more eccentric utility models—that focus is the attraction.
